Gainestown is a small unincorporated community located in Clarke County, Alabama, United States. It is located approximately 10 miles east of Grove Hill, the county seat of Clarke County. The community gets its name from John Gaines, who established a plantation in the area in the early 1800s. The population of Gainestown is around 200 people, and the area is primarily rural and agricultural. The community is known for its historic sites, such as the Gainestown Academy, a former school that is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Gainestown is also home to several churches, including the Gainestown United Methodist Church and the Gainestown Assembly of God Church.
